Tool Maker

Summary/ Objective

A Tool Maker oversees and analyses the specifications given and assembling tools based on the same. Some of the key roles and responsibilities are to lay out the metal stock needed, set up as well as operate the machine tools, fit the assembled separate parts of the tools, create and visualize dimensions and designs for tools of various sizes, and take care of any fixtures.

Essential Functions:

  • Needs to be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Operate a Fork truck.
  • Use hand tools (sanders, grinders, drills, etc.)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Build tooling to set up jobs in Welding and Machining Departments.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, and process instructions.
  • Design mistake proofing into the fixture.
  • Identify and document non-conforming product.
  • Ability to set up and run manual mills and lathes.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position that will require some overtime. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sundays may be required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.  You must frequently lift and or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Manual machining experience is a plus
  • Several years’ experience in the manufacturing environment.
  • Some computer knowledge.
